G001 – Witness to Mother’s murder by Einsatzgruppen

[Narration, archive and Survivor testimony]

Hannah was a six-year-old Polish girl who was a prisoner, along with her mother, in a small work camp in eastern Poland when men from an Einsatzgruppe (a killing
squad) came to clear the camp. Hannah describes how she saw her mother standing with other inmates at the water well but pointedly avoiding looking at her standing in a doorway nearby. She didn’t understand why her mother was doing this until an order was given and her mother, and the others, were shot. Hannah realised that she must stay silent in order to stay alive.
