Melvyn has a longstanding professional commitment to education having held senior management roles in secondary education, and also in adult & community education. Melvyn worked in local government management heading up a Teachers’ Centre, an Arts Centre and he has worked with third sector organisations accessing local Council support. Melvyn recently joined the Holocaust Learning UK Joint Committee having previously volunteered as a facilitator, and as a member of the team co-ordinating schools and colleges booking HLUK sessions in synagogues.
Melvyn’s particular interest in Holocaust education came from supporting his cousin, who was a Hidden Child in Belgium, to research the details of his cousin’s family’s harrowing wartime story.
As a result of the pandemic, HLUK provision for schools and colleges has moved online where Melvyn has played a central role in enabling online registration, streaming of the Docufilms, and the evaluation of HLUK provision by students and teachers.
