Steven was 8-years-old when he was a prisoner in Westerbork Transit camp in the Netherlands. He describes how, when he was lost in his thoughts, he inadvertently walked too close to the perimeter of the camp. He looked up to see a guard with a machine gun looking down on him from the tower and two German guards patrolling near-by with an Alsatian dog. The guards unleashed the dog and it attacked him and he was bitten on his arms, chest and legs. The guards just laughed and mocked him. He ran back to the barracks bleeding from his wounds.
