Steven was 9 -years-old when he was sent to Theresienstadt Ghetto in Czechoslovakia from Westerbork Transit Camp in the Netherlands. He talks about the starvation rations he and his mother and two brothers received while they were prisoners there. He describes how his mother would mix breadcrumbs with warm water to make a kind of paste for her sons which she would serve to them in turn, one mouthful at a time, never taking a spoonful herself, even though she must have been so hungry. Steven remembers the other hungry children watching them, but such were his levels of hunger at the time, he couldn’t think about anything other than having this food for himself.
